The Professional Project Estimator (PPE) Certificate is a hands-on program which will provide professionals with the necessary skills to assist with interpretation of blue print, quantity surveying, scheduling, cost estimation, contract law, and procurement principles.
The program is composed of the following multi-delivery training methodologies:
- Live lectures and direct interaction with instructors
- Educational videos
- Online interactive exercises
Please note that webinar options are available for your convenience.
This graduate program is designed for:
- Those responsible for estimating, planning, bidding, selecting, implementing, using, and managing projects in sectors such as civil, construction, architectural, industrial, mechanical, and electrical engineering technology.
- Project managers
- Estimators
- Schedulers
- Site supervisors
- Superintendents
The program is composed of five courses which provide you with the necessary skills and knowledge that would increase your potential to execute different duties and handle pre-bid/negotiation matters of concern as a proficient project estimator. The level of training provided is elementary to intermediate.
By end of this program you are expected to achieve the following goals:
- Identify the units used for each material within the project.
- Define the stages of design and preparation of blueprint.
- Extract and detail measurements from blueprints related to all tasks
- Practice sophisticated tools for reading drawings and preparing bill of quantities.
- Prepare progress payment certificates using BOQ
- Apply different levels of estimation from conceptual to detailed cost estimates.
- Estimate different types of project costs including direct and indirect costs
- Prepare elemental cost breakdown structure and develop unit rate estimates
- Identify contract components and understand overall contract formation process and its general conditions
- Select the most appropriate contract type and recognize the offer that will result in the best value for the buyer/seller
- Negotiate favorable terms and make revisions to the contract
- Apply rules of contract interpretation in project disputes and administer contracts properly
- Apply work breakdown structure as basis for effective resourcing, estimating and scheduling
- Estimate durations using different methods and use them to develop preliminary schedules
- Establish realistic schedules and cost baseline and monitor the project’s progress and compare it with estimated plan
Courses to take:
Taking the aforementioned five courses within a six-month period will entitle the candidate to the designation: “Professional Project Estimator” (PPE).
Our instructors:
The instructors for our Project Professional Estimator Certificate have 15-20 years of practical experience in their fields. They have overseen complex projects in Canada, the U.S., Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. They have worked in a variety of complex and innovative projects and have vast experiences with project controls; scheduling, planning, cost control, productivity analysis, contract administration, etc. Our instructors are also experts in finite element modelling, producing/detailing of structures, and performing quantity estimates for projects based on blueprints and CAD drawings. They have many certifications from various technical societies, such as PMP, PSP, LEED, and they are also registeredwith APEGA.
